Sun-Pluto Aspects: The Force of Nature

Having the Sun sign conjunct, square, opposite, sextile, or trine Pluto makes you a real force of nature. But, in what way, depends on your personal development and potential. You could become an utterly destructive and even terrifying force of nature – a devouring wildfire (Fire Sun), a ruinous earthquake (Earth Sun), a deadly tornado (Air Sun), or a fearsome hurricane (Water Sun) – or you could be the kind of force that positively represents tremendous personal power and determination. With Sun-Pluto aspects, the power of Pluto is directed toward the sense of self (Sun sign). More than any other Pluto aspect, your mission is to deal with what personal power truly means, where it really comes from, and what you’re supposed to do with it.

A lot of Sun-Pluto people can be strictly self-controlled, knowing just how overpowering their self-expression can be. But, this allows all of that force to build and build on the inside, releasing itself eventually. Therefore, you can veer between being too secretive and controlled to too overwhelming. Overwhelming people is a common theme for Sun-Pluto natives, from childhood onward. Since Pluto significantly amplifies and intensifies your Sun sign’s energy and personal traits, you were often shamed during childhood for being “too much”: too talkative, too intense, too perceptive, too energetic, whatever else. It might have been to the degree that you were – usually innocently – very difficult for your authority figures to control, leading them to take harsh or drastic measures. The fact that you were probably maligned and even bullied by your peers for being so high-intensity and different leads to a feeling of being deeply rejected and misunderstood that causes you to conceal your true self (Sun) so obsessively.

This placement can have the “everyone hates me” syndrome, which may lead you to be pathologically leery of people or pathologically concerned with their approval, especially when younger. You possibly even veered back and forth between both extremes. There can also be a real paranoia and defensiveness about people “controlling” you as you’re already all too used to feeling this way. Thus, the classic control-freak is born, which is also due to the fact that your personality can be so especially dominant. The true motives of people become a strong preoccupation with you, but it’s often a result of you projecting all of that internal dark stuff that you can’t handle on to them: your own rage, obsessions, torments, and power-cravings. Bringing all of this into awareness and learning complete self-acceptance is the only way for you to truly transform.

The major lesson for Sun-Pluto is to fully embrace their Sun sign personality, as well as the extra intensity that Pluto gives it, and not hide it away inside of themselves. This is what allows all of that darkness to be transformed and used for good. Your power is internal, not external. It can never be taken away from you. Knowing that allows you to let go of the need to control everything and everyone around you, particularly what people think of you. Feeling too afraid of being rejected, ostracized, or misunderstood can lead to profound feelings of vulnerability, which you might overcompensate for by controlling and dominating and manipulating. But, if you can really let go, you’ll learn to accept your vulnerability by openly exposing your real self and knowing that no one can ever make or break your sense of self unless you let them, giving you a detachment from fears of rejection.

Whether you’re on the low or high octave of the Sun-Pluto expression, you are going to have a very forceful and powerful presence. People just can’t help but respond to you. Sun-Pluto individuals have an ability to enter a room and utterly take over it with their sheer force of personality. Often times, it’s in a more subtle manner. You have incredible magnetism and personal charisma, which you can use to your fullest advantage in becoming an exceptional leader. You can really inspire others to find their inner strength and their true self. You’ve spent so much of your life feeling ashamed or disempowered that you have a radar for what’s really troubling people and how to guide them back toward their light. You’re an example of courageously authentic living.

Once you’ve empowered yourself, you’re seen as a very strong personality, probably even quite the bad-ass to many. And you don’t have to go around fighting people or even making a lot of noise to do this. It’s in that ferocious strength of character that you’re capable of exuding: never tolerating falsity, pretense, mistreatment, or pressures to conform as well as knowing exactly who you are and not being afraid of it. Being a Sun-Pluto person means that you have the potential to be extremely individualistic, never compromising yourself or your values, even when it’s not popular or gains you criticism. It takes a lot for people to scare or intimidate you, if they ever do. But, you often find yourself doing the scaring and the unnerving, even if you don’t mean to.

Being at a strong level of self-acceptance eliminates a lot of the repression you once struggled with, even if you’re still well-controlled. You’ll express yourself with incredible passion and conviction, making a believer out of anyone who you come across. This is when you become a true force of nature, Sun-Pluto. You’ll be fully and thoroughly alive, exuding an awesome life force that makes every day exciting and impassioned and always pursuing the fulfillment of your deepest desires. Don’t get stuck in all of the dark drama. There’s much more to life than that. Instead, focusing on living with whole-hearted commitment and with as little fear as possible.

However, being a Sun-Pluto individual means that you don’t flinch where the darkness is concerned, whether within or without. In spite of how extremely charismatic you can be, when you’re in a good enough place, you don’t see much wrong with your less pleasant qualities. You won’t always put them out there but you’ll find ways to deal with them and outlets to express them in, adding spice and complexity to your personality. People aren’t meant to always be nice, after all, and you can be an example of how liberating some good, old-fashioned brutal honesty can be. The things people are often too scared to admit about themselves are not so hard for you to admit.

Since Pluto is about the primal forces of the darker side, these need to be integrated in your identity in some manner. It doesn’t mean that you need to engage in destructive activities, but that you still need to honor these aspects of yourself and teach others how to honor them as well. Pluto also pertains to a certain raw sexual magnetism that Sun-Pluto people usually emanate in waves. It’s just a very major part of who you are (Sun) at the end of the day and an ease with all your sexual desires brings enormous growth. You will strive to transcend the sex-negative attitudes that our society still so wrongly promotes , eliminating a lot of the taboo that surrounds various forms of sexuality and showing it to be something totally empowering and healthy.

When the darkest hours come your way, you’ll have an innate ability to deal with them. Having this placement means that you’ve already gone through some especially intense fires at certain times in your life and just accept these things as parts of life. Your fierce survival instinct is deeply connected to your powerful vitality, which can seem almost superhuman in its strength. You can keep regenerating and regenerating yourself, after every loss, betrayal, tragedy, or humiliation. No one embodies the “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” creed better than yourself, Sun-Pluto. “I’m still alive,” you believe, even while there’s nothing but wreckage around you. And no matter how tough it gets, as long as you’re still breathing, you’ll usually find a way to keep on going.

Sun conjunct Pluto: Having the conjunction is the purest personification of Sun-Pluto energy and dynamics that there is. Even if it doesn’t seem like it, to the naked eye, you’re more than familiar with the Underworld. However, you’re also going to be the type who lives to tell the tale and who can teach those around you how to survive and strengthen themselves as well. The personal magnetism here is very overwhelming, often in a positive sense. However, people can find themselves almost helpless in your presence. And you might use this to your advantage all too often, especially when the person in question is “weaker”. Learn how to pursue and gather power for the greater good, not just the good of your ego. Then, you’ll be at your most gloriously effective.

Sun square or opposite Pluto: The square and the opposition are the forms of Sun-Pluto energy that are most likely to rub people the wrong way, possibly unintentionally. If you’re not self-aware and positive enough, you might turn many off by being way too aggressive, too extreme, too anxious to be in control. There can be a ‘me against the world’ mentality here that needs to be let go of, in order for you to be at your best. If not, you’ll torture yourself with your frustrations and self-defeatist patterns. When you do let go of this attitude, you can achieve tremendous things and, believe it or not, be incredibly magnetic. Even more highly charged than the conjunction, due to the inner struggles you’ve conquered, you show a fierce, admirable intent to claim full agency over your life.

Sun sextile or trine Pluto: With the sextile or trine, you don’t have to struggle too much with the idea that you’re powerful or how to properly wield that power out in the world. That comes rather seamlessly to you. However, you might sometimes find yourself overestimating your strength and underestimating the challenges before you. Even strong people like you can lose the battle, after all. Yet, you can easily focus your attention on the war itself and brush such defeats off more quickly than the others in this group. Don’t be disappointed, though, when I say that you’re the Sun-Pluto person least likely to be intimidating. This is a good thing. Your magnetism can reel them in without scaring them off. You know just which buttons to push to make your followers positively respond.

  2. Thanks, KJ. Well, I would say that having a Virgo Sun square Pluto can definitely make you an extreme perfectionist, if you're not careful. It can lead to a very black-or-white attitude of it needing of something (or someone) needing to be totally perfect or they're just not good enough at all. With it being in the 3rd House, there can be a very harsh way of communicating with others or maybe a very harsh internal dialogue (about yourself or about others that you'll rarely actually share).

However, I never want to make any aspect sound like nothing but despair. There's great positivity to be gained from this placement with plenty of self-awareness and personal development. You can be a very highly effective person, due to this Virgo Sun square Pluto. It can make you a formidable problem solver; the kind of person who can pinpoint exact issues - that others probably wouldn't be perceptive enough to see or notice - and find ways to drastically improve any sort of situation. You can also be very big on self-improvement. Just make sure you're not expecting perfection from yourself. Virgo energy and Plutonian energy can actually blend very well, as both are focused on deep healing and effectiveness.

  3. I love when I find new descriptions of astrological aspects! Yours is excellent and inspiring! Thank you! I am aries sun opposite libra pluto and it really does feel like everyone is against me even when I don't do or say anything at all, for as far back as I can remember. Please do mars/pluto...I have that too in square and I look forward to your take on it.

  4. Thanks so much, plutonianmuse! I'm always glad to put new information out there about this stuff and to portray Plutonian energy, in particular, in a more positive, constructive light than you usually read. I've been finding myself fascinated with Mars-Pluto as of recently, actually, so you read my mind! :) I'll probably do a post on that soon so keep checking back in.

  5. Interesting, this really resonated with me! What do you think of Sun in Leo(in 11th) square Pluto in Sagittarius (in 2nd)?

    1. Sorry for the late reply! But, I'm glad that this resonated with you. To finally answer your question, I think that a square from Pluto to a Leo Sun will definitely amplify the passion of Leo as well as the confidence and the leadership skills. You can truly take charge of a situation. Just don't be controlling about it. Try and take charge when it's truly appropriate and necessary; when it's helpful for others. Otherwise, it's just being domineering.

Sun square Pluto is always a force of nature but with Leo as the Sun sign, which is the most powerful Sun sign and the most functional position for the Sun, usually, you are especially formidable. However, Leo functions best with an open heart and with a magnanimous bearing. So, you have to let go of any of Pluto's potential vindictiveness or resentment. Doing this will make you more powerful than ever because you'll become that very forceful, formidable person who uses their power with a sense of benevolence, like the ruler who could behead someone but chooses to let them live. This position can also make you extremely charismatic and magnetic.

  6. ah! I also have Moon in Virgo (11th) square Pluto. Can yo explain how it affects in relation to Sun-Pluto?

    1. Well, it's definitely going to make you more intense and passionate. There's even more of an impetus for you to use your power wisely and constructively because you have so much of it. The Sun defines the identity and personality, while the Moon is about the emotions and needs. So, be aware of the potential to try and bury those needs, from others' awareness or even your own. Don't be scared of your vulnerability and lash out at others whenever you're in this position. Instead, find the beauty and the strength that comes from that vulnerability. That's the key goal for Moon-Pluto, in my opinion. Learning that power and vulnerability can intermingle and that their greatest strength lies in their emotions.

Virgo Moon square Pluto means that you can become very obsessive-compulsive about your standards of perfection. But, you also have the potential to be an incredible healer because both Virgo and Pluto are strong healing energies. You're like a doctor, with an intuitive knack for figuring out what's making people "sick" and giving them the right "medicine" to dramatically heal themselves. This is only when you can heal yourself and find emotional security and health within yourself, though.

  7. Thank you for writing this, it has opened my eyes to my true potential and areas of growth. My Pluto in Scorpio trines my Sun in Cancer, how would this manifest?

    1. Hey, you're welcome! That's the goal of these articles. Sorry I'm replying to you late. But, to answer your question, the trine, as I said above, usually manifests in a stabler, more positive way than something like the square or the opposition. Having Cancer Sun trine Pluto means that you can be a ferociously strong protector for those that you love and find a certain sense of empowerment from caring for people and making them feel good. It definitely increases the intuition and depth of Cancer. Your moods might manifest very strongly, at times, but you have the ability to flow with these feelings easily. And you're highly resourceful, as well, with great survival instincts.

  8. Thank you so much. Wow, love your interpretation. It's positive & uplifting. I have sun square Pluto (sun leo in 5th and pluto scorpio 8th) & it's been a painfully healing journey. I am always so thankful for any lessons I learn: that knowledge a cumulated becomes a sheild/protection from my darkness. I love my darkness// My darkness regcognizes AND accepts the other persons darkness & as a result I always find myself with friends that really intimidate others. I think we magnetically pull together. Anyways. Thanks for sharing your exquisite knowledge!

  9. Hello, very good article, can you say somthing more About the aspect, sun scorpio conjunct pluto scorpio in the first house. I Am obssesed with power and money to show to people who hurt me in the past, (parents) to be very succesfull, but i give myself so much pressure that in need to relax with extreme things, sports, fights drugs etc.

  10. Thanks. I think the advice I would give is to not be obsessed with proving yourself. It makes sense that you would be with Sun conjunct Pluto in Scorpio in the 1st. But, know that you're already powerful. You don't need to seek it out in the world by "showing them" or even being by successful. You have all the power you need inside yourself and should use that power to become successful, instead of seeing success as the way to become powerful. And relaxing will come from letting go and realizing that not everything is life-or-death. Your high intensity is great when it's channeled creatively. This isn't something about yourself you can change or should change. But, sometimes, it's necessary to find a little balance to just chill out a bit.

  11. Great article Wayman! I have Sun-Pluto-Moon all within a really tight one degree conjunction all in Scorpio and all in the 11th house...... I am curious how you would interpret that........ :-) obviously being Scorpio dominant and a Plutonian I deeply am integrated with transformations and the death and re birth cycles.

    1. Thank you! Well, having the Sun, Moon, and Pluto all conjunct Scorpio is definitely very intense. You are part of a special generation of Scorpio folks, being of the Pluto in Scorpio generation. So, lucky you. You have even more power, depth, passion, and insight because of Pluto in Scorpio's conjunction. But, you also have more inner challenges to overcome, too. This is where the constant transformation comes in. You've got to keep digging and digging, so to speak, until you find the gold that represents Pluto's inner riches.

Having these planets all in the 11th House definitely makes you a rebel. Scorpio planets in the offbeat 11th House don't give two shits and having this attitude is part of your identity (Sun) and your emotional nature (Moon), as well as something that empowers (Pluto) you. You're highly unpretentious (and probably repulsed by pretense) and you're cool with people as long as they're cool with you. If not, watch out. You make a fiercely loyal friend, otherwise. You're very independent in your ways and absolutely HATE being told what to do. You have your own mind and intend to use it. There's a ton of dead-on insight into human nature with this stellium and a strange intuition that you might not even understand.

  12. This article and the advice you give is priceless, as are the comments and your responses. I have a Sun-Pluto Conjunction plus a predominance of 8th House planets, Scorpio planets, and Pluto aspects:
-8th House (ruled by Virgo) planets - Sun, Pluto, Mercury, Mars
-Scorpio (10th House) placements - Venus, Jupiter, Neptune, Midheaven
-Pluto Aspects - Sun conjunct at 1 deg 3 min; Saturn trine at 4 deg 44 min; Neptune sextile at 1 deg 23 min; Midheaven sextile at 0 deg 41 min

I haven't suffered the more aggressive manifestations described in this article - my battles are more internal. Outwardly I appear confident, poised and slightly intimidating in a good way. I'm intelligent, creative, loyal and friendly. Internally I'm a mess of feelings of inadequacy - it is literally ruining my life.

I fear this may sound egotistical, but people often comment on how confident I seem and that I have a regal air about me. I’m often told I’m physically attractive. Authority figures, teachers, and people in positions of power take an immediate liking to me. I have good leadership skills, and have been told my whole life how well I read other people (their feelings, motives, and roots of their problems). Could it be that the strong Virgo influence in my chart as well as the soft aspects to Pluto have tamed the negative Pluto energy?

On the ruinous side, I am the epitome of feeling "too afraid of being rejected, ostracized, or misunderstood leading to profound feelings of vulnerability," which is strongly manifested in the realm of my romantic life. I can't let my guard down for a second or let anyone in, especially men I really like who reciprocate my feelings. In those situations, the Ice Queen emerges to protect me from anyone who has the potential to really hurt me if they get too close. Some have peaked through the window, so to speak, but I immediately shut the blinds. Some have been bold enough to knock on my front door, but I greet them with cold obstinance, if I answer the door at all. I recently met a man who unknowingly marched right through the front door – I couldn’t keep him out! We seemed so perfect for each other, but I consciously sabotaged it because it takes me so long – years – to recover from the heartbreak I know is imminent when I let anyone in. It still hurts just as much because now I’m obsessing over him and beating myself up for being so insecure. I want it to stop. This is the realm in which my Plutonian nature has been a curse rather than a blessing.

Sorry for making this into a therapy session, but finding your blog has been a god-send. Now that I understand my nature better, I want to harness rather than cower to its possibilities.

  20. If you have a Sun conjunct Pluto in Scorpio would this be the most intense of the Sun-Pluto signs? And what aspects of Scorpio would it amplify?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If you talk about intensity in fact it is, or else in Aries (strong), Leo (magnetically), Taurus (sensuality), Aquarius (progress) or anyone else in its own way! Could be amplified with aspects from Jupiter, making it in a grand way, Mars in an agressive way, Uranus in a radical and/or progressive way, Saturn in a steady and solid way, Neptune would dissolve any atempt to structure and then it would be more spiritual.

  21. WOW, thank you for writing this. I won't plague you with yet another aspect question to interpret. I just want to say how this has deeply resonated with me, and as others have responded - came at the right time also. I needed to hear this and I realized after reading your interpretation of Sun-Pluto aspects, how that "mission" of figuring out what my personal power is, where it really comes from, and what I'm supposed to do with it just hit the nail on the head. I'm in the process of directly tackling those questions at this point in my life. This is after a long period of misunderstood, misguided misuse of my own power. I honestly don't know if I will ever truly find the answers to that triplet of questions (mission) you posed, but, in true Plutonian form, half the battle or fun, however one chooses to perceive it, is in asking the questions. Thank you again for sharing your insightful interpretation with the world - it's greatly appreciated.

  22. This was really great well-written article on sun pluto aspect! Fo so long, i never really understood why people projected a negtive attitude towardme ( especially when I younher) but after reading your article, I realized that the darkness I conceal is projected. How does this placement also affect my sun sign anb Pluto sign? I have a sun in Pisces 12th house square Pluto in Sagittarius 8th house.

  23. I have the conjunction in Sagittarius, and all I can say is that this aspect confuses me. Even though I have the conjunction, which you mentioned is supposed to be the most potent aspect, I hardly ever feel my pluto energy at all. Infact, it seems kind of backwards because I feel like people have so much power over me, mostly my peers. And since I felt like they had so much power over me, I was often intimidated by them and therefore, I was painfully shy for most of my growing up years and only ever had a few close friends. Anyway, I just wanted to ask you, us this a normal thing for a sun-pluto person, to feel like they have absolutely no power at all?

  24. What do you think of pisces sun square sagittarius pluto?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Interesting question as I haven't seen it that way. I've dated someone with that configuration. I'd say ideologies all over the place, what's right, what's wrong. Pisces likes to live in dreams, but I'd guess that some of those dreams at least would be chaotic, self-punishing maybe. This person I knew was very kind and knew how to relate (having Venus Neptune Capricorn), but poorly and not much often, instead much more often his Scorpio Moon conjunct Pluto 0 degrees Sag would cover all of this some time after. He got so sick, many times irritated and pissed at myself because of some shitty small things that would make a lot of difference for him. And his father was pretty numb, he cared much but his behavior seemed off from reality (Pisces Sun per say) and then squaring there is the Moon Pluto, which was the mother, overbearing, controlling, unfaithful. By this I guess Pisces lacks definition itself, and having Sag Pluto square it's very hard I guess to pin down, with Sag being very elusive to others. You might adapt pretty much well to any environment, or having the capacity to be very compassionate, at your best. Greetings!

  26. Thank you for this, really, thank you.
I have Sun (Aquarius in 8th house) sextile Pluto (Sagittarius, 6th house), I'd think this would be positive generally, but I identify with the hiding of my individuality to a great degree, and a lot of the other negatives of the aspects between sun and pluto.

I do feel hated by others, like I'm views as stupid, and I often feel very controlled.

I'm glad I read this article, it's made me more aware of how I need to handle the aspect, as I have near to no skills when it comes to identifying how to deal with what I feel (I blame it on Moon square Neptune).

    Anyways, thank you :D

  30. I hate labeling or pinning down anyone but here goes so I can give some contribuition to the website. So I'm an 28 degrees Aquarius 9th house square Pluto 28 Scorpio in 5th house conjunct 28 Scorpio North Node. I can't tell you much about my whole life but now I feel very stressed out with this issue about authority that so often happens with Pluto issues. I loved my teachers till high school. Now when I'm in college (9th house) my record of authority issues escalated quickly, and these scumbags are all man (Sun). This comes certainly from my relationship with my father, which was not normal, it was detached, distant and plenty of arguments (afflicted Aquarius). I have a cluster with Sun Aq, Sat Pis, Ven Pis and Merc Pis, all squared to Pluto. Jupiter also in 5th Scorpio, square Mars Aq in 8th, augmenting the intensity. Uranus Neptune in Cap 7th house, making relationships and open enemies elusive and tricky. Moon in Taurus, making me resist to transformations and changes, and Cancer ASC, being closed to the world. Lacking fire element means lacking liveliness that would be needed to my afflicted Sun. Thank you.

    1. Its really hard for me now in college to get out there as I live in a very strict and harsh place with strict and harsh people. At least that's what I see or what I get for being who I am, because whatsoever I can't leave anyone without a good or bad impression of me, it would rather be very good or very bad, if you know these extremes i mean. Pluto is raw, and Saturn tells me it's wrong to be raw, so being in Pisces i hide most of the time, but can't hide the whole time.
