Saturn in the 9th House

Those with Saturn in the 9th House can suffer from a feeling of being trapped, caged in, with nowhere to really go. The 9th House is where you go when you want to feel free, inspired, like the world is at your fingertips. This is a feeling that can be difficult to come by when you have a 9th House Saturn. But, this is also the exact attitude that you need to cultivate in life, as the house where our Saturn falls is where we find our sense of purpose and duty. So, with Saturn in the 9th, it is your duty to free yourself and to not be held back by life. Because when you really stop to think about it, the only thing that’s holding you back is what you believe.

The 9th House is symbolic of our college-age self and how we carry this newly liberated 20-year-old version of ourselves throughout life. College is the time where we get a true taste of freedom and where we have the chance to finally develop our own convictions about life. Through this process, we hone the inner compass that the 9th House represents and that guides us throughout the rest of our lives. But, when you have Saturn in the 9th House, college is not an easy experience. For many people with this placement, something occurred during the college years – or, if the person didn’t attend college, between the age of about 18 to 21 – that makes them feel like freedom is a very precarious thing that can come equipped with some terrible consequences.

There are some 9th House Saturn people who nail themselves down during this time. While their friends were all out going wild and having a good time, they were back at their dorm room, studying the night away. All of the possibilities that college offered – partying, drinking, making new friends, traveling abroad – just seemed to terrify them. Those with this placement routinely grow up feeling like they don’t have any freedom, often because of a father figure who was forced by life to settle down somehow with limited options. So, how this experience impacted them is shown through their college years. These young adults could be so used to not being free, to always having rules and regulations, that they just can’t handle the option of doing whatever they want. They stick firmly to the straight-and-narrow path, which unfortunately means that they cut themselves off from embarking on the wonderful explorations that college offers us.

Instead of being enriched and empowered by the experience of finally being out in the world, on their own, they just take to the college experience with a very ho-hum kind of attitude. In fact, some of these people don’t even want to move away when they go to school. They could’ve remained living at home or just attended a community college on the side, all while paying more attention to their full-time job. For these types of people with Saturn in the 9th, the full-on college experience was just scary. They were so used to being given guidelines that a life where they had to establish their own guidelines was unnerving. For this same reason, they could’ve struggled in their college courses that were more about thinking for themselves instead of just spitting out facts and memorizing answers, which they could’ve been very good at growing up. It’s no surprise, then, that many 9th House Saturn individuals end up not going to college at all.

Yet, there is the other type with this placement: the one who suffered a serious backlash from their newfound freedom. These types also grew up feeling restricted and like they didn’t have any freedom. Life was not an adventure for them, while under their parents’ roofs. But, suddenly, once they went off into the world, they could do whatever they wanted! So, they went to the other extreme: going really wild and crazy. However, we experience consequences in our Saturn’s house when we don’t abide by certain rules. And with Saturn in the 9th House, the rule is to cultivate an inner compass that will effectively guide you through life, instead of just making you roam the world like a wild animal. And for those with this placement, you can only be a boy or girl gone wild for so long before you experience the consequences.

That’s true for most party girls or boys. But, Saturn in the 9th House people get hit much harder when they let themselves roam too freely. So, during the college-age years, something devastating could’ve happened, as a result, like a DUI incident, a totaled car, failing a class, getting arrested, etc. And it might take a couple of these terrible events to occur for these people to slow down, if they do. By the time they have, they’ve ended up with a giant mess on their hands. Then, being free becomes a struggle because these people don’t realize they’ve taken it too far until disaster happens. If Saturn happens to be conjunct the Midheaven, this can really impact their reputation and social status, as well as their burgeoning careers. So, the terrible irony can be that they begin ruining all of their possibilities just because they feel like they can do anything that they want.

This can bring issues with their actual education, as well. For the types who go too wild in college, it becomes difficult to focus on what they’re actually there for. Many delays can be experienced in terms of getting their degree. Questioning and doubting one’s education and why they’re actually even in college is a very common experience for the 9th House Saturn, which is why a lot of these people end up either dropping out or finishing their education quite late. They become infected with this feeling that the grass will be greener elsewhere. Then, they shoot off in a different direction and are horrified to discover that they’re just as miserable there as they were before. Troubles with traveling is also a hallmark of having Saturn in the 9th. These people may move to a different city or country, desperate to find their happiness, and realize that they’re still terribly lonely, empty, misguided, or restless, creating a terrible cycle that prevents them from settling down.

It doesn’t help that the age of 21, which is when many of them are still in school, is when the Saturn square Saturn transit is experienced. This is what I like to call the “pre-Saturn Return”, a time of serious challenges and doubts in a person’s life that brings them face-to-face with the issues of their Saturn, several years before their first Saturn Return. All that being said, looking back on being in college can be very painful for these folks, as it just reminds them of their failures and their setbacks. Maybe the whole experience left them cold or maybe they are somehow still yearning to have those glory days back, now too resistant to settling into the humdrum routine of adulthood. Saturn in the 9th House can feel like such a contradiction and to have this placement means that you may feel, more than most, that responsibility (Saturn) somehow limits your freedom (9th House). How can you be free and responsible at the same time? During the beginning stages of adulthood, most 9th House Saturn people never learn how to, over-doing one or the other.

This carries on into their post-college life by making them feel like they either have to be super-responsible or not care at all about their responsibilities. So, you either get the person who is still a complete wild thing when they should be focusing on growing up, acting like a modern day sort of Peter Pan, or the person who is so intent on growing up that they never allow themselves to really enjoy the journey of life that they’re on. The latter types are living with no sense of inspiration, which prevents them from following a path that’s actually fulfilling to them. In either case, these issues will come to a head during the Saturn Return in the 9th House. I think that, more than most people, these individuals will feel their first Saturn Return very strongly because the issues that it brings up are going to be relatively recent and fresh. Having left school just several years before, their first Saturn Return in the 9th will remind them of everything that’s come to pass.

It can be a time of enormous regret for these individuals. They can particularly regret not making the most of the time they were in school, of not having more fun and allowing themselves to take advantage of more opportunities or of having such a good time that they didn’t stop to find the true meaning of why they were in school in the first place. It’s no surprise that many of them end up going back to school during their first Saturn Return, often times to get their Master’s or maybe to just study something else. The point of the first Saturn Return is to get you to buckle up and move toward the right path. But, it shouldn’t be a time of feeling old and washed up. At the age of 28 or 29, you still have so many possibilities ahead of you. Saturn in the 9th House people learn this lesson probably more than anybody during their first Saturn Return.

Since the 9th House brings us inspiration, this is a time for that inspiration to be renewed. Saturn is our purpose and with this placement, you find purpose in life through traveling the road to inspiration. You must be pursuing something that brings you genuine enthusiasm. You’ll find that if you’re engaged in a career that is dull, deadening, and doesn’t excite your spirit, it won’t be able to work. You might lose your job or feel like you’re increasingly going insane at work. Eventually, you may even just break free, like an animal busting out of captivity. You need to use this feeling of struggle to figure out what is truly meaningful to you. Start a journey for yourself that is going to make you feel on top of the world, like anything is possible! It’s why career options are quite limitless for you, just as long as you’re doing something that genuinely inspires you.

With this placement, you can all too easily operate under the false conviction that being an adult means that the good times are over, causing you to either never want to be an adult or desperately attempt to grow up and limit yourself, in the process. It all stems from a few of those nasty experiences in those college years of yours where you transgressed and then paid a heavy price. So, your concept of freedom can be either fearful or self-destructive, making you think that you can never go too far again or that you’re going to screw up, anyway, so who cares? You will have to learn that it’s not that black-or-white. There is a way to be responsible and to also live life fully and freely. This is why your Saturn Return in the 9th may feel like it’s slowly killing your spirit. It’s doing so in order for you to realize that it’s your purpose to live life in an adventurous way.

At the same time, your adventures must have purpose. So, being the party-animal type with this placement can be just as empty and unfulfilling. You can have a good time but you must do so in a way that, again, feels meaningful. Therefore, the endless merry-go-round of going out and drinking the night away can eventually begin to wear thin for you and cause you to seek something more substantial. Saturn gives us structure and with Saturn in the 9th, your structure comes from having various explorations and adventures. These exciting acts give you strength. So, go skydiving or travel Europe for a couple of months or move to that city you’ve always dreamed of moving to! On a less extreme end of the spectrum, you can also find strength in just being adventurous enough to make that career move you’ve always dreamed of or trying out new places and events in your town. Anything that makes life feel exciting will make you grow as a person.

People also associate religion with the 9th House all too often. And yes, sometimes, you can see a Saturn in the 9th House individual, particularly after their Saturn Return, take up a certain religion that gives them newfound strength. In many cases, this placement shows a person who grew up without a religious background. Even if you did, there was probably a personal rebellion against it, at some point. But, the issue comes from not believing in anything. With Saturn in the 9th, it is your duty in life to truly find something to believe in. This doesn’t have to be religion. But, you will find maturity by cultivating some sort of philosophy that will get you through life. You need certain convictions to guide you and keep you going. A lack of faith can be another central issue of this placement that needs sorting out. Without this faith, life can easily feel bleak and cause you to feel or seem directionless. But, with this strong, solid sense of faith, you’ll know exactly where to go.

The Chart Ruler: Libra Rising (Venus)

Hello and welcome back to the chart ruler series! I’m getting quite a few requests for Libra Rising and I do pay attention to those requests, even if I can’t always respond to them and don’t seem like I do. So, let’s go ahead and tackle Libra Rising next. Again, just for me to reiterate what I always say, the chart ruler – which some people can be a bit confused on – is the ruling planet of the sign that your Ascendant is in. It’s not your most dominant planet or anything like that. Therefore, being born with a Libra Ascendant means that your chart ruler is Venus, since Venus is Libra’s ruler.

Venus is also Taurus’ ruler and we’ve delved into this lovely planet before through the Taurus Rising article in the chart ruler series. There are only two planets that get modern rulership over two signs: Venus and Mercury. So, it’ll be interesting to address how the planet can rule two people’s lives in similar yet different ways. The Venus rulership of Taurus is not the same as the Venus rulership of Libra, just like Mercury’s domain over Virgo differs from its rulership of Gemini. With Taurus, we are still dealing with love (for the self and others), harmony, beauty, and pleasure. But, that gets manifested in an earthy, practical ways: through values, good sense, money, and possessions.

Meanwhile, with Libra, Venus’ beauty and pleasure is more of an intellectual thing. The reason being is that Taurus, of course, is of the Earth element and Libra is of the Air element. So, when you’re a Libra Rising, you get the Airy side of Venus instead, which makes quite a difference. It’s more so about living a life involving mental pleasures. The chart ruler, after all, defines the tone and the development of your life story. It’s how each chapter of your life unfolds. Like Taurus Rising, those with a Libra Rising often find themselves living quite an easy life. Of course, there are those slew of Libra Ascendants who are born of the Pluto in Libra generation, often having Pluto either conjunct their Ascendant or in the 1st House. If this is the case for you, life is not going to be so easy. But, even in the face of those terrifying trials, you can walk through the fires and find the burns magically healing themselves, often times without you even having to try that much.

If the Ascendant is how we were brought into the world, having a Libra Ascendant usually means that your entry into life was quite a harmonious one. Similarly to the Taurus Ascendant, this placement can mean that you were an easy birth or that the mother was particularly cooperative and at peace when she was giving birth. In some sense, the Libra Rising baby becomes a symbol of peace and loveliness in this environment. From the beginning, you were given the kind of treatment that made you feel like you just made other people happy. Maybe your early environment was chaotic before you arrived and your arrival just balanced everything out somehow, even when you were still just a baby or a toddler. This is also because you were remarkably agreeable, from the start. Babies with this placement are the types to rarely cry or fuss, not really wanting to cause a disturbance, and this is a pattern that obviously continues throughout life.

This sets you up for being the peacemaker in any given situation you are involved in. The Ascendant is our general demeanor and those with a Libra Ascendant have a demeanor that keeps things civil, balanced, and enjoyable for everyone. Venus is the planet of relationships and making sure that you are compatible with someone else. And with Venus as the chart ruler, it’s as if you want to be compatible with everyone. The thing is that you have a way of carrying yourself that makes you seem as if you are; as if you could be anyone’s lover or friend. I’d say that Aquarius Ascendant is your only equal in getting on the same page as anyone else. But, they behave this way out of egalitarian drives and as a sort of social experiment. You behave this way because you’re essentially matching yourself up with someone else.

And that’s why your life is ruled by the Airy side of Venus. Throughout each chapter in your life, you will be able to look back and see how you allowed a relationship (Venus) to take over a part of your brain (Air). It’s very common for Libra Rising people to feel like a distinct sort of person when they’re in a relationship and then question how they were behaving when it’s all over. This isn’t just in terms of romance, either. Venus is love, in general, and it can happen with anyone you love: your best friend, your older brother, your mother, etc. And you can become such a mirror of this person, you have to stop and ask how do you live and how you do act when they’re not around? This will send you looking for another person to mirror, wanting to mesh half of their brain with yours.

However, your brain is a powerful thing, in and of itself. I’ve found that out of the Air family, Gemini and Aquarius get a lot more press when it comes to being really intelligent. Gemini is the mastermind, bright and communicative and witty and full of ideas, while Aquarius is the genius, thinking outside of the box and challenging conventional ideas and sticking to its ideals. But, Libra is sort of like the nice, pretty one in the family who everyone underestimates yet who is actually acing all of her tests. Libra is just as intellectual as the other two Air signs and when you have a Libra Ascendant, you view life from a very intellectual perspective. It’s just that, because Venus rules your life and Venus is about relationships, you’re going to need to surround yourself with people who can understand, mesh with, and nurture your own intelligence in order for your mental abilities to shine through more. You see life as needing to be about a meeting of the minds. So, a lot of your life will be spent trying to find that intellectual equal of yours.

And, let’s face it, so much of your life will be spent trying to find love. With the Airy Venus dominating your life, your life story is a lot like a romantic-comedy. In fact, Libra Rising individuals usually love romantic-comedies. Unlike Taurus Rising, you are living out a Venus-fueled life that is more about ideals of love: finding Mr. or Mrs. Right. It’s why you will have a really hard time staying single, as you’ll either be a serial monogamist or bouncing from one love affair to the next. Libra’s connection to Venus fills it with ideas about love, meaning that you’re constantly thinking some variation of “he/she might be the one” or “I don’t know if this is going to work.” Needless to say, it can create a lot of indecision or inconsistency in your life. Love is a concept for you and one that is constantly in flux, which means that there’s a lot of love going in and out of your life.

This will be evidenced through the house that Venus is in. Libra Rising folks live out both the joys and the downfalls of their Venus house to the hilt. If you have Venus in the 9th House ruling your chart, it means that love is constantly an adventure for you, something that inspires you and liberates you and gives you direction! That’s wonderful! Until the love no longer lives up to that idealism. Then, the 9th House Venus ruling your chart will make you terribly restless, careless, and insatiable in love, constantly feeling like the grass will be greener elsewhere. Maybe you have Venus in the 11th House as your chart ruler. Because of this, love is an entirely unpredictable and unexpected thing for you. It comes into your life very abruptly, out of nowhere, and you’ll usually find yourself turning acquaintances into lovers. This can result in a wonderful feeling of like-mindedness and friendliness in the relationship. That is, until the love is no longer ideal. Then, you can become a wild, erratic force in the love affair, turning things upside down to regain your freedom. Either that or you may suddenly switch off and become too casual and detached with your lover, treating them way too much like a buddy, without any of the romantic passion.

So, in spite of the balance you seek, you might sometimes be quite a disaster in love if you are all over the place about it or too idealistic about it. The problems of your Venus’ house can be blatantly obvious to everyone, particularly family and friends. With Venus in the 5th, people might always tell you, “You can’t keep making the relationship about you.” If you have Venus in the 10th, you may constantly hear, “Love and success don’t cancel each other out.” The good thing is that you enjoy taking advice because you are so open to other people’s ideas. As a result, you will probably be able to establish that balance in your Venus’ house at some point. It’s usually around the age of 30 or so, after a particularly messy or chaotic love life, that most Libra Ascendants figure out how to be the right kind of man or woman so they can attract the right kind of man or woman. That’s a lesson we can all stand to learn. But, as a Libra Ascendant, you are walking, talking proof of that.

Yet, it will not be difficult at all for you to attract someone because the attractiveness of this placement is legendary. The Ascendant is the appearance and Venus is beauty. Put those two together and you have someone who is usually very beautiful to look at. Regardless of your actual physical appearance, there is a real “glow” from within that beautifies you. It’s often a case of inner beauty creating the outer beauty. That inner beauty comes from your Venus’ house. Venus is self-love and self-worth, so you will do whatever you can to emphasize that. If you have Venus in the 3rd, you will really emphasize your wit, communication skills, and intellect, to a degree that makes you feel so good in your own skin and so loved that you cannot help but develop this very attractive aura. And, yes, it’s not always just a case of you being beautiful on the inside. The percentage of really pretty people with this placement is quite high. The Ascendant is the impression we make and many Libra Rising folks can give the impression of being a model or an actor, even if they’re not. Something about them just seems gorgeous, refined, and camera-ready. And if this is their line of work, the response is often, “Yeah, of course, with those looks.”

This is one of the most elegant Ascendants you can have, next to Taurus, Leo, and Capricorn. Your every move just seems balanced, poised, and sophisticated, even if you’re not feeling that way internally. You’re projecting that, as it’s just how you carry yourself. Libra Rising people tend to walk like their walking down a runway, complete with the posture that seems as if they have a book being balanced on their head. It also helps that you probably dress like a model, as well. Most Libra Ascendants display a remarkable flair for fashion, as Venus does represent one’s fashion sensibilities and personal taste. Since you see life in terms of beauty, you know how to put yourself together in a very aesthetically pleasing way, including clothes-wise. You are a real clotheshorse. There seems to be two types with this placement, though: those who are total lovers of fashion and those who don’t really care about clothes but still exhibit wonderful taste. So, even if you’re not obsessed with fashion, you still know how to pick great clothes and wear them very well, making the same outfit look sort of basic on a less-inclined person.

On top of it all, though, you have a very lovely demeanor. From the beginning, you have been playing the part of the nice guy or girl; the one who makes people happy. This is what Venus ruling your chart does. It gives you a very high awareness of how you’re relating to others, making you far less likely to make terrible social blunders that others just seem ignorant of. In fact, it’s often hard for you to imagine how some people can be so rude! With the Ascendant in Libra, your whole vibe is a kind one and it’s another part of what attracts others to you. Your default expression, aka your resting face, is a very pleasant, neutral one. Your face automatically shifts to this peaceful place. Having such a neutral look makes you seem like someone who doesn’t really have much conflict. Ironically, this is what draws you in the middle of everyone else’s conflicts, as you are deemed as the person in the situation who can bring everything back to homeostasis.

The problem with all of this is that you may potentially fall back on being polite and refined and appealing to others a bit too much. Again, this is where we meet the Airy face of Venus. In Taurus mode, Venus is just concerned with grounding itself (Earth) in its own self-love first. But, through Air, that self-love can seem to come through others’ love, which might feel threatened by fights and conflicts. After all, isn’t that what can cause breakups? So, too much of your life can be lived trying to make everyone happy and pacify people. As a Libra Rising, this isn’t news. You’ve heard it, time and time again. But, the root of it is that you live your life by sharing love with others in a very intellectual way: through ideas, communication, and rationale. So, if things aren’t logical and light and agreeable, it can be tough to feel the love. Yet, you just need to see these disagreements as chances to build true love with others, as real love persists in the face of conflict and disagreement. The ones who truly love you will continue to do so, even when they want to strangle you or vice versa. And with that Aries Descendant, you are definitely learning that in your personal relationships, which will, in turn, keep you in touch with your more fiery, assertive side.

So, what happens when you’re having your Venus Return? The Return of the chart ruler is the time where a person can truly turn their life around, rewriting their story and proceeding with a different approach. Your Venus Return will occur about once a year and this is the time where you can redo your love-focused approach to life. You will feel it strengthening, making the concerns of your Venus house more powerful and pressing. But, this is occurring in order for you to really examine what’s going on in your life, in terms of the love you’re giving and receiving. For everyone, the Venus Return is a time for relationships to become stronger, to feel more personally attractive, and to become more attuned to the beauty of life.

Yet, all of that is your life. Therefore, you’re always going to really enjoy your Venus Return, even if you have squares or oppositions happening with Venus. I think the love you spend so much time pursuing and giving is going to magnify, opening up your heart and allowing you to touch even more hearts. Libra Rising people are often unanimously adored by the people that they know. They’re the kinds of people who are very difficult to dislike. So, the Venus Return will only awaken you to how much love you’re surrounded by. And any neurotic attempts to please other people or to find that special someone can be modified during this time because you can stop and realize what a wonderful person you are and how love always has a way of finding you.

Neptune in the Houses: Go with the Flow

The house in your birth chart that is occupied by Neptune is the house where you have to go with the flow. There is going to be a feeling of surrender in this area of your life. You cannot control the activities of this house or have them act in accordance to your will. Instead, you have to become completely fluid in this house. Since Neptune is such a distant outer planet, the ways in which we feel and express our Neptune on a personal level are through the aspects to Neptune and the house placement of Neptune. In our Neptune house, we find transcendence.

But, this can also be the area of our life that is particularly chaotic, confusing, and nonlinear. Very few things can make sense in the house that we have Neptune in. That is, they won’t really make sense on a logical, straightforward level because Neptune is not logical or straightforward. Still, it’s very easy for us to lose ourselves in this area of life, to develop a certain addiction for what it represents. Everyone has a certain desire to “escape” and that is expressed in the house you have Neptune in. This is where we have a looser hold on reality and where we might even be downright oblivious to certain things, leading us toward a path of oblivion. But, here, we learn that “reality” is often more of a concept than a fact. And for all the confusion and chaos of this house, it’s also where we can experience a beautiful feeling of bliss and higher understanding.

Neptune in the 1st House
Transcendent behavior. When you go with the flow, you can behave like anyone and at any given time. Yet, this can give off the impression that you’re somehow deceptive or out-of-reach. But, you just get so immersed in whatever role you take on that it overwhelms you. From your point of view, life is something to be lived with imagination and empathy, as if you’re a character actor.

Neptune in the 2nd House
Transcendent security. You put the “flow” in “cash flow”, as you handle your money by not holding on to it. You have a metaphysical approach to your finances, earning more by giving back a lot and not being attached to money. This selflessness and compassion raises your self-esteem. But, it’s possible to indulge too much by either spending obliviously or letting others virtually rob you.

Neptune in the 3rd House
Transcendent communication. Your mind works in highly intuitive ways, causing you to give and receive information a lot like a telepath or a psychic. You are a channel for a boundless stream of ideas, which can sometimes overwhelm you, causing you to either never stop talking or feel at a loss for words. At your best, you can serve as a voice for the voiceless.

Neptune in the 4th House
Transcendent privacy. Behind closed doors, you are quite an escapist. Anything in your home life that will take you into another world makes you feel safe and comforted. You might spend a lot of time alone in your personal life and could easily become a recluse. You’re very empathetic with your loved ones but also a mystery to them, as your private self is elusive, unknowable, and changeable.

Neptune in the 5th House
Transcendent creativity. When you’re truly living in the moment, you get utterly lost in the moment. So, your self-expression can become quite confusing or vague to others. Your creative talents and energies can take you to otherworldly heights, turning into an addictive passion. Your heart can deceive you, at times, bringing crushes, dates, or flings that feel like chasing a mirage.

Neptune in the 6th House
Transcendent routine. You don’t want to keep the mundane parts of life mundane. Instead, you are capable of being very imaginative when it comes to getting these day-to-day things done. You feel most productive when you can work on your own wavelength. But, it can also be very easy for you to get caught up in fantasizing about the tasks you’ll do instead of actually completing them.

Neptune in the 7th House
Transcendent relationships. In your personal bonds, you seek a dynamic that will sweep you off your feet and be a give and take of compassion. You are most compatible with fluid, sensitive companions but you are also a fluid, sensitive companion to others. Still, it’s crucial for neither person in the relationship to put the other on a pedestal, as the illusion will painfully shatter.

Neptune in the 8th House
Transcendent intimacy. You are capable of going with the flow by loving the deepest, darkest parts of yourself and another person in an unconditional manner. Emotional and sexual intimacy can act as an exchange of profound healing in your life. But, toxic projection and deception can occur, as well, making it very difficult for you to tell which psychological issues belong to you or your partner.

Neptune in the 9th House
Transcendent conviction. You can tap into an all-paths-lead-to-God mentality (whatever your God is) that makes you very accepting toward the convictions of others. Yet, having such a loose sense of faith will make it harder to understand your own inner compass. In the end, you will feel freed and inspired by this ability to flow wherever the waves take you, trusting that it will all work out.

Neptune in the 10th House
Transcendent status. Throughout life, you will achieve the status of the chameleon, getting ahead and gaining recognition by being a shape-shifter. But, this means that while your community thinks they have you figured out, they really don’t have a clue. Your life goals aren’t always clear or even realistic. Your ideal profession is something that is either out-of-this-world or heals humanity.

Neptune in the 11th House
Transcendent experimentation. You have to welcome unexpected chaos into your life. The more you try to be logical and clear-headed, the more confused or overwhelmed you’ll feel. You are oddly intuitive and imaginative, capable of experimenting with really visionary ideas. Eventually, you’ll use this psychic brilliance to collaborate with others and move toward common goals with them.

Neptune in the 12th House
Transcendent empathy. You go with the flow when you acknowledge and accept your exceptional compassion, becoming deeply in tune with all of humanity and the Universe itself. This sense of oneness requires remarkable egolessness, which can be very draining, confusing, even downright scary. But, this level of empathy also brings bliss and wonderful spiritual, artistic, and psychic gifts.

North Node in Gemini: The Curious Soul

***Also for if you have North Node in the 3rd House

Having the North Node in Gemini in your birth chart means that this lifetime needs to be about true communication for you. Your highest soul-expression is one that is logical, inquisitive, and eager for more information. That is why I call you the curious soul. Deep down, you possess this powerful yearning to just learn more. More than most people, the more you know, the more you grow. But, you need to “know things” in a rational way; by gathering all the facts. Gemini North Node individuals are discovering that, in order to evolve, they need to treat life like an endless classroom, a textbook that never ends. Accessing and embracing your ability to be both a remarkable student and a remarkable teacher is what is going to bring you the most spiritual growth.

For those with the North Node in Air – Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius – objectivity and open-mindedness are required in order to rise above the sometimes overly subjective passions and desires that they succumb to so easily. With the North Node in Gemini, you have the South Node in Sagittarius. Because of this, you possess an innate sense of faith, morality, truth, and freedom. You’re a naturally adventurous spirit and a big motivation behind these adventures is to figure out the bigger meanings of everything. But, your search for inspiration and truth can often become unbalanced. Sagittarius South Node folks are all too prone to blind faith, letting their belief in the Universe become downright naïve, and also to self-righteousness. You have a deep-seated habit of letting your beliefs and opinions become the “absolute truth”, instead of just one perspective amongst a sea of many different perspectives. In order to grow, you need to overcome this habit.

Since the South Node is indicative of our past life. It’s usually our most recent past life or, at least, a very recent past life. In any case, having the South Node in Sagittarius shows that your former lifetime was one big philosophical journey. You were a free spirit in this last life who thrived on going from one place to the next. An addiction to “finding yourself” in this sense and discovering a grand sense of meaning and inspiration defined this former lifetime. While this made your existence quite exciting and allowed you to live with the wind in your hair, it eventually became a stumbling block for you. A major issue for South Node in Sagittarius is believing that the grass will be greener on the other side, creating an insatiable kind of restlessness that keeps you going from one path to the next. You were too dissatisfied with the mundane and too hungry for something “more.”

This craving for more, more, and more drove your past-life self in many ways. You were an excessive sort of individual who didn’t really understand moderation. This led to an irresponsible streak as well as a compulsion for “gambling”, in many senses of the word. Whether you were at the blackjack table or jumping on some get-rich-quick venture or just taking some wild leap of faith, in terms of romance or career, you didn’t let logical considerations hold you back. After all, the Universe was on your side! Sagittarius South Node people were such believers in their past life that it became quite fanatical or ridiculous. Most of these folks were very religious in this last lifetime. Whether they were Christian, Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim, etc., this belief system always made them think that everything would work out and that their God was on their side. But, such a belief became all-consuming, to the point where it prevented them from being appropriately rational.

Their beliefs also invaded their communication with others. Instead of just conversing with other people, they preached to them. In fact, a lot of these people were preachers, evangelists, or religious leaders/activists, to some extent, in their former lifetime. So, they not only became preoccupied with swaying others over to their side of the fence but became fixated on their truth. This doesn’t only mean their philosophical or religious truth. South Node in Sagittarius people were compulsively honest in this last life, to the point of tactlessness or foolishness. I think these people can be divided into two groups. The first kind never learned how to cultivate a “filter”, giving them no sense of rationale in what to say and what not to say, which led to a pattern of being embarrassingly blunt. The second kind is quite similar but they just more so never learned how to lie. In many ways, this is an admirable thing. But, it kept them in a state of naïveté, feeling as if they could never tell the tiniest fib or that people always wanted to hear their opinions. And, of course, this isn’t true, which is something that created some social awkwardness.

These issues were never resolved in this former lifetime. So, they have been carried over into this life, in order to be settled and overcome. Even if you don’t buy into the past lives theory, everything I just said can definitely be applied to your past in this current lifetime. Individuals with the South Node in Sagittarius spend the first quarter or third of their lives really feeling like restless philosophers, constantly searching for meaning, overly eager to inspire others, and quite helplessly unable to monitor their speech and not be honest at all times. But, when we over-focus on the South Node, which we do until we’re about 25 to 30, we just end up feeling empty and unfulfilled. This is when we have to say “enough is enough” and strive to reach our full potential. After all the aimless adventures, the restless quests, and the foolish self-righteousness, those with this placement have to come to a breakthrough period in their lives when they are ready to come down off of that high-horse, as well as to stop riding that high-horse off into the sunset all the time.

This is when the North Node kicks in. Those who have the North Node in Gemini realize their full potential when they stop preaching and start teaching. The thing is that the North Node is always within us, unconsciously developing due to a dissatisfaction with living so heavily through our South Node. And because of their South Node, these people possess a moral code that can be downright rigid. But, deep down within their soul, they can feel an “evil twin” brewing within. Gemini symbolizes duality and paradoxes. If you have the North Node in Gemini, this theory of opposites and contradictions is not initially comfortable to you, early in your life. But, a funny thing happens: you end up turning into a hypocrite.

Having the South Node in Sagittarius means that you can only stand on that soapbox for so long. Then, you fall off because you start getting other ideas and hearing other voices. If you’re a hardcore vegetarian, to a degree that makes you fanatical, you’ll increasingly crave the taste of red meat. If you’re extra-vocal about casual sex, to the point where you judge people who are not as prudes, you’ll start feeling yourself become more and more unsatisfied with having sex without commitment. Whatever the case may be, if you are too self-righteous about something, you will end up going against that belief. The Universe is, after all, set up to deny us our South Node or make it a source of struggle when we are not balanced out by our North Node. It can horrify you to feel this terrible yearning to go against your beliefs. But, you actually need to embrace this compulsion because the North Node in Gemini is about being open to many different ideas.

Instead of insisting on specific beliefs, you need to spend this life focusing on a wide range of ideas, thoughts, and perspectives. You experience a deep fulfillment when you can accept and master your own duality. The problem is that you can feel uneasy with being contradictory because it feels like it’s being dishonest. But, the truth is that human nature is all about contradictions: love and hate, yin and yang, light and dark, right and wrong. And these contradictions can blend so easily that it’s difficult to tell the difference between the two. Accepting ambiguity is a big step in your development as a person. It’s all too easy for you to bluntly promote a black-or-white code of morals and ethics. However, your major challenge in this life is to welcome the shade of grey.

This means understanding how to be both right and wrong, instead of always needing to be right. Such an attitude is your Achilles’ heel. But, you have to develop the objectivity to know that what’s right for you is not necessarily right for everyone else. Maybe someone sees your point of view as “wrong” but you don’t. Maybe you disagree with someone else’s ideas but they are fully convinced they’re right. This is just the ambiguous part of human nature: we all are just trying to do what we think is right. Knowing this will prevent you from judging others so much, in accordance to your moral code, and make you realize that the “truth” is not absolute. It varies, from person to person.

In accepting this, you can figure out ways in which to modify your own truth, depending on who you’re speaking with. This doesn’t mean be two-faced, insincere, or dishonest. The North Node is the highest, most ideal expression of that sign. So, while those with personal planets in Gemini can suffer from being a bit tricky, shady, or duplicitous, this isn’t the case for you. Instead, you can master the art of tailoring your message to the individual. After all, with a Gemini North Node, your higher purpose lies in being a great messenger. To do this, you have to move beyond the very generalized form of preaching you’re prone to and cultivate a more specific brand of teaching. Instead of spreading your messages on a mass scale, you need to spread these messages on a smaller level, engaging in a logical give-and-take of information between people.

But, you will still need your South Node, as we all do. As I say all the time, the South Node does not need to be left behind. It just needs to be transformed. And you can use the good faith and spirit of adventure to drive your emerging communication skills. Your curiosity will be strengthened if you see the exchange of ideas between you and someone else as an adventure. You never know what will happen and, who knows, they might end up changing your mind! Such a concept is pretty unthinkable to you, in your less evolved and conscious state. You want to do the enlightening! You want to change minds! The thing is that your Gemini North Node does give you the power to change others minds. But, this can only happen when you’re just as open to being mentally affected by them, instead of seeing your interactions as only being about you inspiring, uplifting, or directing them. Real communication is a two-way street!

With the North Node in Gemini, becoming an expert conversationalist is your destiny, allowing you to engage with all sorts of people in regards to all sorts of things. You have to let go of the idea that you can only speak when it’s about something “meaningful.” This is the reason why, sometimes, you can talk up a storm and, other times, you don’t want to say much of anything. You can speak excessively when it’s something you believe in: when it’s a grand topic like religion, life, morality, politics, self-discovery, etc. But, when you’re asked about your day, your job, or your new house, you might feel yourself blanking on what to say. You may be able to go through the motions of it but in a manner that feels disengaged and remote, as if you’re above the whole thing, which is an attitude that inevitably makes people not really want to talk to you.

Therefore, you’re mastering the art of chit-chat, of small talk, of speaking about everyday and random things. Your Sagittarius South Node is so hungry for meaning. But, you can use that thirst for discovery and truth to understand that everything has meaning. You can actually end up learning so much about a person through small talk, if you overcome your arrogant feeling that it’s meaningless. Actually, all the little things about how a person communicates, as well as the random things that they say and speak of, can carry a great deal of meaning. You have to work on not letting these things go over your head. Figuring out things like social cues and body language really unlocks your Gemini North Node. You must remain adaptable to all the shifts in your environment and the person you’re speaking to, going with the flow of it all in an intelligent way.

Your higher self is bright, fascinating, and witty. You have a latent ability to adapt to the endless stream of thoughts and ideas around you. But, until you embrace this higher self, you might be that person who comes off as sort of “dumb”, even though you’re actually smart. It takes some time for Gemini North Node to develop these intellectual skills. You are more comfortable with being told what to think and say through your particular “bible”, whether it’s religious or just a personal philosophy. So, when it comes time to actually think and speak, in a way that’s removed from these beliefs, you can fall flat on your face. You can respond to what you think someone said, instead of what they actually said. You can tell jokes with horrible timing, making them either land flat or come off as inappropriate and offensive. You may also just completely get something wrong that’s an obvious fact to everyone else, making you look really silly.

But, this is why you need to move toward being the student. Gemini North Node people are unlocking their social graces within. Being so clumsy or inept at connecting with others has allowed a side of yourself to unconsciously develop that just wants to see things more clearly. If you can logically tune in to what’s happening around you, then you will be on the right track. This awakens your amazing skill of being able to gather all the facts, observe the situation correctly, and then figure out what to say. It’s a real learning process for you but one that will strengthen your intelligence, sense of humor, and social skills. It’s why being curious is so important for you: more than the average person, you have a lot to learn and this is something that will make this lifetime endlessly stimulating for you. There’s always more information for you to consume.

Developing this mindset will appeal to the insatiable nature of your Sagittarius South Node. But, the difference is you need to be eager for information and not for experience. Working on this mindset will allow your inner shrewdness to emerge. Because you can blindly assume that everyone is as honest as you are, you can all too readily take someone at their word. This also comes from that habit you have of gambling, of just taking a risk without any information. However, this isn’t going to work for you. Your South Node makes you feel like luck is always around the corner. Yet, it won’t be if you keep allowing yourself to be duped. Instead, you must shift your perspective by realizing that the only way you’ll get lucky is by being logical and observant about your situation. In many ways, you need to be like that 6-year-old who won’t stop asking questions. In this lifetime, with a Gemini North Node, you can’t assume anything. Always seek out the facts. This will not only help you see things more clearly but will straighten out the various forms of miscommunication you struggle with. The truth, for you, can no longer be about opinion. It must be about logic.

You’re also reining in a compulsive tendency toward wanderlust. You will always love to “travel”, whether it’s to discover many different experiences in your city or to go from city to city or even country to country. But, in order to find true fulfillment, you must focus on travels of the mind, more so than travels of the body. In actuality, your soul is tired of darting from one place to the next. You can find real satisfaction deep within by engaging in what’s going on in your own backyard. Gemini North Node people can make excellent neighbors; the kinds who are always keeping up with everyone. On a certain level, you need to gossip. It’s what your soul yearns for. I’m not saying do it in a malicious, negative way. But, knowing how to freely exchange a wide range of information is how you evolve, helping others learn and also learning more from others. So, spilling a harmless amount of tea is good for you! Your greater potential makes you that person who causes people to hang on to their every word, eager to hear what you have to say next.
